How to use stain to recreate a nice wood piece!
I just love it when I find a nice piece at the thrift store. I don't always know what I will do with a piece but I do know when I see it that it is something I can work with.
When looking for furniture to recreate I try to find pieces that are sturdy. I prefer to work with real wood because the possibilities are endless.
While I am an animal lover, I did not like the ducks on the front of this bench when I first saw it so I new it had to go!
So for this DIY this what I did.
1. I cleaned it really well with a damp cloth. It is very important to remove dirt and dust before starting any DIY process.
2. I sanded the seating portion of the bench because I know I wanted to stain it. I also sanded the painted ducks on the front so that it wouldn't bleed through my paint job.
3. After sanding, I painted the bench with Satin White Latex Paint. SIDE NOTE: People often suggest that I use Chalk Paint but I am not the biggest fan of chalk paint. I do use it occasionally.
4. I then stained the seat with Minwax Concentrating Stain
5. After the stain dried overnight I then put a couple of coats of clear to protect the surface.
6. I added a Mr&Mrs sign I got from Hobby Lobby just below the heart cut-out on the bench, I attached with a hot glue gun.
