DIY, Learning how to use paint to create a faux marble technique.
One of my favorite DIY projects was when someone gave me an old desk that they were going to set on the curb to be picked up with Trash. When I got the desk home I had no idea what I wanted to do with it as far as creating a design for it. I had just opened by new Real Estate office and I knew that I wanted to place it there. At that time I had not decorated my office at all so I had nothing to go on.
Well everyone who knows me knows my favorite color is black. I decided to paint the desk black. Of course that was going to be too plan for me, I wanted to create a nice desktop and so I took to google pics to get some ideas! I saw a beautiful marble desk that I absolutely loved. I couldn't afford a real marble top, I thought why don't I create this look using paint. So I did.
Here is it! I absolutely love it. Here are the steps I took to get this look.
Step 1 - I painted the top using a high gloss white latex paint and allowed it to dry for 24 hours
Step 2 - I purchased Black and White Acrylic Paints. I mixed Black and White several times to get different shades of gray.
Step 3 - I used a thin paint brush to create the veins you see in marble, painting black veins around the table.
Step 4 - I used an old cloth to dab and blend shades of gray around the veins. I continued the process around the desktop. If an area was too dark I would go over it with white paint to lighten it. I did this until I was satisfied with the look.
Step 5 - Once the acrylic design was dry and sprayed on several coats of high gloss clear coat spray paint to give it a nice shiny look.
It is now a showpiece in my office!
