5 Quick tips to rejuvenate a kitchen for less than $100
My mom's home was originally built in 1950 and while it had been renovated since that time it was in desperate need of a touch up. The problem was the budget.
I had done a few furniture makeovers but wasn't sure I could do anything with the $100 budget. But this DIY project turned out great. See before and after.
1. Clean - I started with a deep cleaning and decluttering. There was too much stuff everywhere.
2. Paint goes a long way! I purchased one quart of Satin White Latex Paint for upper cabinets and one quart of Satin Black Latex Paint for bottom cabinets. I saw that design on an episode of one of the HGTV shows and loved it.
3. Before painting the cabinets I removed the handles and painted them with metallic silver spray paint. Replacing handles can be pricey.
4. I also used a can of high gloss white spray paint to paint the vent hood over the stove. It worked fine but had seen better days. So using a degreaser I cleaned it and when it was dry I spray painted it.
5. Of course on that budget there was no way I could afford to replace the counter tops. So I went to Lowes and purchased some Faux Marble Contact Paper and used it to cover the countertops. If you do this be sure to caulk around the sink so that water does not penetrate the paper.
A few decorative towels and a floor rug and I was all done!
