5 Easy DIYs You Can Do To Help Sell Your Home
1. DECLUTTER - By reducing clutter you give the buyer an opportunity to see what you have to offer. Often times buyers can't see past the accessories in your home. They can be reluctant to make an offer as they are unsure as to what they would actually get. It is a great idea to rent an outside storage to store those items that can't be thrown away. Many homeowners attempt to reduce the clutter inside by simply placing everything in the garage or basement. Not a good idea. Buyers are just as interested in seeing these areas as they are the actual living areas. A cluttered garage looks small and makes buyers question whether their cars will actually fit in the space.
2. STAGE - While there are professional stagers that can help you stage your home, there are things you can do on your own.
- Remove personal pictures from the walls
- Less is more, remove access furniture from rooms
- Replace dark heavy drapes and curtains with lighter curtains to allow natural light to come in
- If you have very little furniture try stopping by thrift stores and yards sales to find furniture pieces
3. CLEAN - a good cleaning goes a long way. Pay special attention to:
- Bathrooms - update shower curtain if necessary and replace or repair leaky faucets
- Baseboards - dusty and dirty baseboards can make a potential buyer feel as though the home isn't clean.
- Blinds - it is no secret that blinds collect a lot of dust. If blinds are worn, torn or discolored, replace them.
- Kitchen Counters - minimize the amount of items on the countertops, especially if there is very little counter space.
4. Have a daily "Ready Routine"
- Make beds first thing in the morning
- Load or wash dirty dishes
- Take out the trash
- Secure all pets
- Put away all personal and valuable belongings
- Make sure your homes smells great
5. Maintain the Yard - Curb appeal is a buyer's first impression of the home. Clean the windows, clean the gutters, sweep debris from the porch, cut grass weekly and plant flowers to give your yard a good look and feel. Have a welcome mat at the front door to invite buyers in and allow them to wipe their feet before entering.
